We are delighted with the success of our on-going substantial grant of £30,000 being used to activate 10 start-up clubs creating new opportunities for people affected with Parkinson’s to participate in physical activity – now recognised as one of the most effective ways of slowing the progression of Parkinson’s. We have received an overwhelming amount of very positive feedback from the participants and instructors. A boxing class in Kent would not have been possible without our support and through our funding “The Parkinson’s boxing programme now supports approximately 25 participants on average a week and it has been a pleasure to see first-hand how these sessions transform lives, helping participants regain confidence and remain active for longer within our community”. Participants in the MoveMe class set up in Ardington in Oxfordshire reported that their balance, coordination, posture, wellbeing and motivation all improved. One participant remarked that “The opportunity to share the journey with others on the same road is invaluable in a way I could not forsee before attending these classes”. They speak highly of their wonderful teacher who “shows enthusiasm and compassion to all us participants to enter into conversation and improve wellbeing”. More wonderful feedback has been received from a Qigong and Strength & Balance class at the Hayling Island Community Centre. One participant was delighted that her physiotherapist was so impressed with the improvement in her balance and confidence that she actually went along to see the class!
